3D Printed Picture Frames

Picture Frame

My wife created a fun family portrait using AI, and our kids have have a lot of fun creating images. My son is busy making images of Spiderman teaching Goku math in a classroom and Mario coaching the Avengers. The problem is that AI images come out square, while most frames in the store are rectangular (4 × 6″, 5 × 7″, etc.), so their masterpieces had nowhere to live.

To solve this, I designed a 3D printable picture frame that’s:

  • Quick and easy to print: under 45 minutes on a Bambu X1C
  • Minimal: just a thin border with built-in picture holding pegs
  • Customizable: swap in any front pattern or colors you like
  • Hardware free: no visible nails or screws once it’s hanging on the wall

Picture Frame

The basic idea is a single piece frame that can be re-sized in Fusion to fit any AI image. This one is modeled around one that is 7" in size. The inside tabs hold the image tight with minimal printing supports. However, you may need to tweak these settings to fit your custom picture size.

My prints are in black PLA as they don’t need to withstand the elements or direct sunlight. The textured build plate also gives it an interesting texture, but you wouldn’t notice it unless you’re up close. This was designed around a 3mm screw head because there are a bunch laying around here. Grab a handful of those to tack one up.

If you print one, share your photos. I’d like to see what colors / designs you come up with!
