After building a custom L-shaped desk during the lockdowns of 2020, I didn’t leave much room for storing multiple laptops. Back then, I was limited to using the extremely underpowered and limited-functionality MacBook Air that work had issued me.
Fast forward four years, and now we’re a family with numerous laptops but no decent place to keep them. Fortunately, that’s nothing a 3D printer and some rapid prototyping can’t attempt to fix!
I grabbed some CAD, measured some stuff, and after a few tweaks, we have an STL that can be printed until we’re blue in the face. In fact, we had a get together yesterday, and no one was able to find the laptops without additional help.
These device mounts can be adjusted to fit any thickness of laptop or device you need to secure. They’re also customizable by simply moving the pieces around. I’ve added felt to the insides as to not scratch the laptops going in and out.
My office desk now houses several computers, each with easy access. The big screen on the left is connected to a hub with ethernet, a USB mouse, HDMI, a 60W charger, and an HD camera. Connecting all these peripherals to any of the mounted laptops is as simple as plugging in a USB-C cable from under the monitor. I’m really enjoying the flexibility and simplicity of this solution.
