A bunch of familiar faces - Greg Kinnear, Jim Caviezel, Joe Pantoliano, and a few others - wake up in a warehouse with no idea how they got there. Some are beat up, some are cuffed and bleeding, and all of them are totally confused.
As the movie goes on, we get these weird black-and-white flashbacks that help us figure out what’s going on. They’re kinda annoying and happen way too often, but they’re necessary to keep the story moving. There are some crazy twists and turns - enough to make M. Night Shyamalan squirm in his seat. But then there are these extra “twists” at the end that just feel like overkill after a pretty meh movie.
It’s not all bad, though. I love it when movies don’t follow the usual hero storyline. Like in Sicario - Emily Blunt’s character is just along for the ride, and we’re right there with her. Unknown had some potential to do something cool like that, but it kinda fell flat after a while.
The movie has its moments, and some of the ideas are pretty cool. But honestly, it feels way too long for what they’re trying to tell us. Maybe I’m been conditioned to have a shorter attention span from all the social media and stuff.
